Meet World's Smallest Dog, Beyonce: Almost Too Cute To Be RealDanielle Sullivan
If you’re a dog lover (and I’m guessing that you might be which is why you landed here at our brand new blog, Babble Pets!), you have seen a cute dog or two. And you’ve likely seen a small, even tiny pooch a bunch of times before. But what you’re about to see just might go over the limit on the cuteness meter.
A Dachshund mix puppy named Beyonce was born on March 8 in an animal shelter in San Bernardino, California and she may be the world’s smallest dog. At birth, she weighed just one ounce and fit into a spoon. Now at three weeks, she is currently tinier than a tea cup.
The Syracuse News reports it was a miracle that Beyonce even survived:
“We had an ultrasound done, and they actually saw that there were five puppies, but one was probably going to be stillborn,” says Beth Decaprio, executive director of the Grace Foundation of Northern California, which rehabilitates abused and neglected animals. “It didn’t look like a viable baby.” Beyonce wasn’t breathing when she was born at the foundation’s farm in El Dorado Hills, Calif. A veterinarian tried to revive her by performing chest compressions. Then he passed her over to Decaprio.
“I blew a couple little breaths in her mouth,” Decaprio says. “And she started to breathe on her own.”
Just like the singer Beyonce sang, this adorable pup is a definite survivor which is one of the reasons the shelter wanted to give her a ‘big’ name. The shelter thinks that while she is definitely Dachshund, she may be mixed with a Chihuahua. Since making the news, the shelter says adoption offers have poured in for the dog, but she is not ready to be adopted just yet.
