10 Amazing Ways My Husband Supported Me During Pregnancy

While I am waiting to find out what this cycle holds for us, I have been thinking about my amazing, past pregnancies. I didn’t have what you would call “easy” pregnancies, but it was still a very special time in my life and I am so ready to experience it again.

I knew my husband was going to be an amazing father and he really proved that to me while I was pregnant. His support, and the way he took everything in stride, really helped me. I was anxiety-ridden due to the complications that made staying pregnant difficult, I had a bumpy ride with kidney stones, and some weight-gain issues. I felt so uncomfortable overall.

If you’re looking to support your loved one during her pregnancy, here’s what my husband did for me that I am forever thankful for.

Some of the ways he helped me was just by being him and other's he went totally out of his way.

    He Rubbed My Tired Feet
Pregnancy does something to your feet that I can't explain. They hurt more because of the extra weight and shift in your center of gravity and well, it hurt. My husband was always so sweet to rub my feet when they got sore, because it's just so much better than doing it yourself.

He Always Jumped When I Said Feel This
When the baby was kicking or doing something weird and I wanted him to feel it, he was always happy to jump when I said "feel this." He never once said, "hold on" or "I'm busy." Small thing, but meant so much.

I had to be hospitalized a few times due to kidney stones and he never missed a beat. He cared for the two young kids at home, managing their care and going to work at the same time.

I had this super-craving to orange juice during one of my pregnancies. He made sure we always had some in house, nice and cold for when I wanted it. Which was all the time.

There are some funny things that happen when you're pregnant. It's hard to reach and tie your shoes, harder to get up off the couch and well, there's kind of a waddle that happens when the baby places himself low in your hips. He never made fun of me or laughed at me for any of these things. I know some could take the humor, but he knew better with me.

I was so tired, all the time. There were times I would literally fall asleep when he was talking to me and he never made me feel bad about it.

I know that no one really likes a complainer, but sometimes you just need to vent. I don't like to do it often, but he was always there to listen when I needed to let off some pregnancy steam.
  • He Gave Me My Injections 9 of 11
    He Gave Me My Injections
I have to take daily injections from the moment I find out I'm pregnant until 6 weeks post partum. They're injected into my stomach, even when I'm huge. He would take on the injections for the first part of pregnancy until I got used to it.
  • He Kept Me Calm 10 of 11
    He Kept Me Calm
I had a lot of anxiety at the beginning of my pregnancies -- wondering if I would lose the baby. He was always understanding and helped keep me calm without trivializing what I was feeling.

Ultrasounds were more than just checking the baby for me and wondering the gender. I was afraid of them, it caused me anxiety due to my losses and my husband came to every one to hold my hand.
