10 Creative Treats for the 4th of July

I don’t know about you, but I love me some festive desserts. And the 4th of July is one of the best excuses to whip up a red-white-and-blue treat — especially because it’s an easy way to pile on nutrient-packed berries.

Of course not every dessert recipe is suitable for an outside 4th of July BBQ, and so many flag recipes have become cliché at this point.

Stand out at your holiday gathering with one of these creative and patriotic recipe ideas that taste as good as they look.

    4th of July Flag Cake
This idea has been floating around the blogosphere for awhile, but I still think it's absolutely brilliant. It makes me want to have a 4th of July party every time I see it.

Glory, the mom behind the popular blog Glorious Treats, simply layered Jello and COOL WHIP and topped each cup with berries. Glory recommends using COOL WHIP instead of real whipped cream because it holds up better at an outside party.

Perhaps these shouldn't sit out in the sun too long, but this cheesecake (made with a cream cheese and COOL WHIP mixture) is garnished with star-shaped pastry and berries for a patriotic touch.
