One of the more strange symptoms of pregnancy is the nesting phenomenon. I had it out of nowhere when I was pregnant with my first child, and since then, it’s not been as strong in other pregnancies, but I have a feeling it will be back in full-force shortly.
What is nesting? Well, for me the first time I experienced it, it came in the third trimester — this overwhelming feeling that all the things must be perfect. I wanted all the clothes hung up neatly, the house stocked with food, vacuumed couches, and no dust in sight. Looking back, I have no idea where all the energy came from, but it came in full-force. The American Pregnancy Association defines nesting as “the overwhelming desire to get your home ready for your new baby. The nesting instinct is strongest in the later weeks coming up on delivery. It is an old wives tale that once nesting urges begin, labor is about to come on.”
