124,791 New York City Babies: What Names Ruled?

New York City is The City That Never Sleeps.  Perhaps it’s all those cryin’ babies?  64,076 boys and 60,715 girls were born in NYC in 2010 (amazingly, there were almost as many babies born to Staten Island residents than babies born to New York State residents who live outside the city).

The most popular baby names for too-cool NYC babies were Isabella and Jayden.   Michael continued its slow slide down the list (Michael was the city’s most popular boy name from 1980 to 2006), and Ashley, the most popular girl’s name from 1992 to 2003 and in 2006, fell off the Top 10 list entirely.

The least popular names included Veer, Enoch, Oona, and Diamond.  Only 10 girls were named Britney, and only 10 boys were named Jeter.
