25 Things You Never Knew You Always Wanted to Know About Me

I have been writing on Babble for a little while now and I think it’s overdue to get to know me a little better. I mean, I did just tell you all about my sex life so why not get nice and familiar with each other now?

I don’t normally like to talk about myself this much and I may be the most boring person you’ve ever not-yet met, but I still think there are some things you’ve always wanted to know about me, but didn’t know you wanted to know. Some are random facts, some are actually kind of embarrassing to admit in public and others are just weird things that make me — well, me.

    I have this freaky ability to function with very little sleep. Came in handy when I became a mom.

    I am a proud Canadian and yes, I do say 'Eh' way too much. It's also the reason for some weird spelling you may see. Colour = color. Favourite = favorite. We like our 'u's.

    Despite my best efforts the most I gained during pregnancy was 12 pounds total (the other two were 10lbs & 8lbs). I birthed healthy 8 pound babies though.

    I will scream if you touch your feet to mine. I am so serious about it that my husband and I use our own blankets so his feet won't touch mine.

    I am a big advocate for breastfeeding (I breastfed by youngest until she was almost 2.5 years old) and a huge advocate for co-sleeping.

    When I was pregnant for the first time, the first symptom was a super sensitive nose. It hasn't gone away and I wish it would.

    I hate being sick with a cold and when I am, you will find me sporting Kleenex up my nose. I don't care if I am out in public or not, it's comforting.

    As a result from my multiple miscarriages, I suffer from post traumatic stress disorder which I am working hard to overcome.

    I know, sex should be fun right? I wish I could just go with the flow and hope for pregnancy to happen, but for my best chance of having a healthy pregnancy, I need to know when implantation happens. Which means, chore sex and planning things out.

    Kidney Stones Galore
    Have you ever heard the debate - whether childbirth or kidney stones are more painful? I don't need to question it -- i've had 26 kidney stones because I make them like crazy when I am pregnant. I am monitored closely during pregnancy and am not looking forward to that again.

    I am a no-fuss kinda lady. My idea of the perfect date is anywhere quiet and I am not a partier. My perfect evening is reading a National Geographic Magazine with a glass of wine.

    I Have Celiac Disease
    I eat 100% gluten-free because of celiac disease. I have been eating gfree for 5 years now and am so thankful that I now feel 'normal' again! My whole household eats gluten free so we don't have to worry about cross-contamination.

    I am sure that most moms feel this way, but it's so true. I think I was put on the planet to raise these amazing kids.

    I Don't Drive
    I can not medically drive right now so I walk everywhere with my three kids. I have a double stroller that my kids refer to as 'mommy's car'.

    This is my most recent piercing, a triple helix (each is a separate piercing). I also have my tongue done and up until recently -- some other piercings too.

    Own Language
    I have two brothers and a sister and we have our own language. We call it "McGEnglish". We sort of just meld weird words together and if we're in a room together it may be hard to understand us.

    I Had Rough Childbirths
    My labors were okay and not that horrible, but the births were a bit rough. I had vaginal births but needed quite a lot of stitches (56!). I had surgery a year after my youngest was born to make things less painful.

    Tell me a joke and you may hear me snort. It happens, it's weird and funny, but I can't help it.

    I am a baby loss mama - I've had 11 miscarriages and one personally defined stillbirth.

    I Have Factor V Leiden
    I have a blood clotting disorder called Factor V Leiden, which predisposes me to developing blood clots. When pregnant I get to take that needle everyday in my stomach and for 8 weeks postpartum. I will be needing to do it all over again for the next pregnancy too.

    Just over a year ago, I founded an online support site called Unspoken Grief. Our mission is to raise awareness and break the silence and stigma of grief left by miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death.

    I am a big fan -- even though, according to my family, should support the Toronto Blue Jays. All of my kids have a Yankee baby blanket my grandma made for them -- we call them their 'Yankets'.

    My husband and I have been together since high school. We moved in together during college, got engaged during college and married right when we graduated. We've been together for 13 years now.
