26 Week Update: Finally, Good News! (Plus, Cute Sono Pics!)

By Casi Densmore-Koon |

It’s official. I was blessed with good news this week. Can I get an amen? Oh, and not to mention some cute sono pics. See below. As always, if you need to catch-up on my roller coaster ride pregnancy, see my last update.

Finally, my high-risk doctor, who I claim a miracle worker, has given me a medication that has stabilized my pregnancy. Yes, stabilized. Since my hospital stay at 21 weeks, I never thought the words stable and my pregnancy would be in the same sentence together. But, I am thrilled that things are fairly good (knock on wood) this week. With that said, I can’t believe I almost hitting the third trimester and will be 27 weeks in  just a few days. Thankfully, time is finally flying by.

So what was the big change?

Last week I talked about a little drug called Indocin, which is what I am now taking 3 times a day plus my other little dose of meds so we can all work together. Yes, the images above is how many different medications I currently take each day. And yes, the one bottle reads “vaginal route.” Don’t worry, it surprised me too. But, doctor’s orders, it is the Progesterone via pill since I wasn’t able to tolerate the shot after 20 weeks. Fun stuff I tell you, fun stuff.

Back to the Indocin. They were concerned with side effects. The side effects being a decrease in fluid surrounding the baby plus a blockage in the small vessel of the babies heart. Apparently, these side effects are often seen once you’re on Indocin, so you have to be carefully monitored with sonos. Lucky for me - no side effects! So, as long as I continue showing no side effects each week, I will stay medicated until 31-32 weeks.

And that is where the problem comes in. They are concerned, once I am taken off all meds, I will immediately, or a short time afterward, go into labor. I am not happy with making 32 weeks. I am not happy with making 34 weeks. Quite honestly, I don’t want to make 36 weeks. My goal, I don’t care what the doctors think or assume – 37 weeks. And oh my gosh, it would be a miracle if I made 40. As crazy as it sounds, I would probably cry tears of joy. It would be so amazing for me!

Yes, I know – who really wants to make 40 weeks? Call me crazy but this pregnancy has been so insane, it would be great. A few weeks ago, they weren’t sure if I was going to make it at all. They weren’t sure if my body was going to allow things to progress. But, we’ve done good and I know, we can do this! So that is my personal goal. Even though my doctor swears it will be 34 weeks – I really don’t want to stay in the NICU and I am determined to make it this time around. Praying my body and little one allow things to go smoothly and praying the medication doesn’t all of a sudden show side effects. Just always praying.

Now, heading into 27 weeks, I will continue on weekly visits and just hope for the best. After all, that is all I can do at this point. In the meantime, take a little peek at my little man. We got to see him yawn and suck his thumb. He showed off quite a bit for us this week!
