38 Weeks Pregnant - 10 Days Til D-Day!Emily Malone
At this point the baby is probably around or over 7 pounds, and has likely reached his full size in length. I still don’t really believe there is a real live baby in there with actual skin, hair, and fingernails. I still picture him as a giant tadpole. I guess we’ll see soon enough!
I’m on high alert these days for any signs of labor, even though I know that it’s so hard to predict. But here are a few that I think I might be experiencing…
- Dropping even though I’ve carried low this whole time, I do think my stomach has “dropped” a bit. There seems to be more space between my boobs and my belly these days, and when I sit I feel like my stomach is literally resting on my legs.
- Braxton Hicks contractions these have definitely increased. Apparently they are likely to increase in frequency and duration for several weeks leading up to labor though, so this doesn’t necessarily mean anything is happening soon.
- Pressure I feel a lot of pressure really low in my pelvis, so much that it can be painful to walk and sit at times. I’m convinced our baby has a giant head (Casey and I both do), so I assume it is moving downward and causing the pressure sensations.
Other than that, I generally feel the same as I have all along. My midwives don’t do any physical checks on us until we reach 40 weeks, so I won’t know anything about my physical progress for another week or so. I might try to convince them to check me at next week’s appointment!
I’m definitely slowing down a lot here towards the end, and even the most basic tasks are difficult and sometimes frustrating. I took a break from walking while my husband was out of town, but am planning to start back up again this afternoon, and hope to get things moving!
Every day I make sure I am caught up on cleaning, dishes, laundry, email, etc. just in case today is the last calm day before the storm. One of the things I want to work on this week is figuring out our plan of how and who to contact once labor actually begins. The only other thing I’m really still working on is figuring out our diapering plan. I’m hoping that it will all feel much easier once we’re doing it and not just talking about it.
From now until the end of October, my schedule is completely cleared! I don’t really feel like I can commit to much of anything beyond the next day or two at a time.
Getting Ready for Baby
Nothing new this week, although I did order some wet bags for diaper storage that should hopefully arrive soon! Baby C also received a ridiculously adorable gift from friends Kelsey and Jason…
BABY TOMS! Clearly he wants to be just like mom and dad.
The other generous gift we received from Kelsey was a maternity photo-shoot! She is considering starting a side business in photography, and wanted some extra practice subjects. We were happy (and grateful!) to help her out.
The pictures turned out so well, and I am embarrassed to admit how many times I have looked through them. I hadn’t originally planned on having maternity photos taken, but now that we have these I am SO happy we have such a beautiful way to remember this pregnancy.
These are just two of my favorites, but you can find the rest of them here!
TEN days til my due date! But who’s counting…?
