5th and Final Time Stopping Labor = Another Weekend In The Hospital

(If only those IV’s were filled with Starbucks…..wishful thinking.)

There is one thing that I have learned from this pregnancy. I either have one very determined child or I have  a very irritable uterus. Considering the unborn wouldn’t even let us keep the monitor on him to track contractions, I am going with a determined child.

Yes, you read correctly. I was in the hospital this weekend yet again. This now is a record breaking 3 times in a 2-week period. However, this is it. Next time will be go time. Why? Well, a few reasons.

The pre-term labor meds will be coming to  a stop. Most likely on Thursday. I will be 35 weeks tomorrow and I’ve been on them steadily since 18 weeks. At this point, because of my health and the side effects of the meds, they decided it is best to not keep me on them anymore. And well, I agree. Most docs stop them at 35 anyway. There is only so much they can do at this point and we are to a point where my body is just rejecting the pregnancy. My heart rate is skyrocketing each day and with that, the babe has been stressing. We feel that once we say farewell to these meds, it will be go-time.

I’ve been on complete bed rest again the last week and will be the rest of this week as I desperately am squeezing my legs together to hit 36 weeks, which is next Tuesday. My cervix is saying, “Let’s go!” so I am trying to stay put. We really are trying to get past the NICU baby stage. I am pretty positive we will do that considering #3 was born at 35 weeks and #2 was born at 36 weeks, both perfect. Let’s hope this baby is the same and we don’t see the NICU. That is what we are praying for this week. And to make 36 weeks. Once I make 36 weeks, I will be off bed rest and I call dibs on October 3rd.

hours and hours of contractions

October 3rd is the day I see MY doctor (this week I see the office midwife) and if I have dilated passed 3cm, which at that point I am sure that I will be, I’ll most likely be admitted to the hospital because I have to have IV antibiotics for 12 hours before delivery. And this is something we can’t mess around with at all.

So what exactly happened that landed me in the hospital? Bleeding and contractions. Contractions that were 1-2 minutes apart lasting 1-2 minutes. Yes, we are talking labor contractions. The bleeding was most likely the rest of my mucus plug. Lucky for me, they stopped it, for the fifth and final time. After rounds of IV fluids, terb shots and Procardia. While we were there I found out I had a kidney infection so I was given and IV full of antibiotics for that little number; yet another reason the contractions could have been acting up. Thankfully, by the time I was discharged, my heart rate had come down from 114 to 80, baby was good, contractions had stopped and hopefully, the kidney infection was on it’s way to recovery. It was an exhausting weekend and another reason why I can’t wait to just hold my little one! I am still recovering today. Not to mention that kidney infection is seriously kickin’ my booty.

not exactly the arm candy I wanted to add to my wrist

And well, there you have it.  A little peek into a high-risk pregnancy, yet again and another hospital stay on the books. Official countdown has begun. 8 days to go. Let’s do this!
