8 Things I’m Looking Forward to Post-Pregnancy

Perhaps this isn’t the most politically correct thing to say, but I try to keep it real. So don’t freak out when I say… I haven’t loved being pregnant. I’m not one of those women who absolutely ADORE the experience; I think there’s a lot of pressure to act like you are smitten with pregnancy even when you’re not.

Don’t get me wrong – I love my baby. I love the idea of growing my baby. I love to feel kicks and wiggles – and I’ll really miss that. But you sacrifice a lot to be pregnant (and I’ve had a very easy pregnancy). Sure, you’ll sacrifice a lot to be a mom, and I understand that as much as a momma-to-be can. But damn – I miss drinking wine. And wearing pants with zippers and buttons.  And springing out of bed. And being able to see my toes. Hah!

In all seriousness, the thing that I’m looking forward to the most about the end of pregnancy is learning whether my baby is healthy. I am really nervous about this – I’m sure all mommas are – and I just cannot wait to hold him or her and see that all the toes and fingers are in place.

But that’s a rather heavy topic for a fun slideshow, so here’s a silly little list of the other things that I’m looking forward to once the baby is on the outside.  What are you looking forward to? What will you miss about pregnancy?

Okay. I'll be blunt. One of the things that I am really looking forward to about my post-pregnancy life is having sex in more than one position. There is basically one only way that you can 'do it' when you are 9 months pregnant. I look forward to doing it every other way once this baby comes out, and I can actually sit up without moaning and groaning (hot!).

On a less dirty note, I am looking forward to taking my baby on long walks in his or her stroller! We bought this stroller, and sometimes, when I'm bored, I drive it around our living room. I'm so pumped to put a little baby in it.

I am also really excited to learn how to breastfeed and to experience this with my child. I know it's not always easy, but I'm still looking forward to the act of breatfeeding a baby.

I have trouble imagining our baby because we don't know if it's a boy or a girl. I'm really looking forward to meeting the baby and finding out the sex. I know that both my husband and I are excited to hold him or her and give her or him baths, too. I just can't wait to cuddle our baby! (Fun fact: the baby in that picture is ME!)

    Be graceful again
I am VERY excited to be able to get out of bed without groaning. I am also looking forward to the ability to rise in the morning without having to literally roll out of my bed. Currently, I have to roll out and end up on my hands and knees before rising to my feet. I would like to get out of bed like a normal person again.

I'm into triathlons and running, and I cannot WAIT to 'get my body back.' I know it will probably never be the exact same body, which is fine by me, but I am looking forward to being athletic again. I really can't wait to do another triathlon. Racing is a huge part of my life, and while taking a break from intense exercise for pregnancy has been kind of nice, I've really missed the experience.

Pour me a giant glass of shiraz, please. I cannot wait to drink alcohol again. That's all.

I am thrilled to become a mom, but I think I'm more excited to see my husband become a dad. He's so good with children, and I know he'll be great with our baby. I cannot wait to see him care and love for our baby.
