A 40 Week + Pregnant Woman Dances Herself Into Labor [Video]

By ceridwen |

Let’s get it started, yo.

Check this woman out: She’s 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant WITH TWINS and has taken it upon herself to induce labor by dancing. The song? Well, you just have to see it.

Her partner joins in and all I can say this is a much more pleasant way to induce labor than castor oil. Or pitocin.

Watch it. Be inspired. Go into labor.

The dancing mom writes on youtube: “Trying to induce our twins at 40+ weeks after trying everything else. I went into labor two days later and had a natural, un-medicated hospital birth (with the support of my awesome husband and our amazing midwives).” Let’s get it started!

Thank you to the ever-resourceful “Childbirth Connection” for tipping me off to this video.

    1. ceridwen says:

It seems it might have, Jen– under the video I posted what the dancer had to say (it’s kind of buried down there in the blog post). She went into labor 2 days later and all went well.

  11. Rakhel says:

Love it!! I belly danced my way through labour right in my living room! The back and forth swaying motion seemed to bring my baby right on down and out in record time! Plus it really helped with the intensity of the contractions. I highly recommend it!!!

  12. jenifer says:

good for you guys! this video is hilarious, and you are so cute! congratulations on your amazing birth, too!

  13. Diane says:

Ok not fair I only made it to 29 weeks with my twins and I measure 42 cm at 29 weeks. My belly was bigger than that and they were 11 weeks early!

  14. Christy @ pureMotherhood says:

This video is of my cousin. She and her husband will make awesome parents. I can’t wait until the twins see this video and are totally embarrassed. Here’s her blog: http://nothingsandnotions.blogspot.com/

    1. ceridwen says:

Christy– Thanks for this! Your cousin is a true champion (and her husband, too). How psyched are their kids???????

  15. Rachnkids says:

THIS lady is awesome! I wish more people would exercise during pregnancy! I went on a 2 mile walk the day before I had my son. at home. in 5 hours.

Drugs = BAD! (like, duh?!) Exercise = good!! Exercise = easier labor! Seriously.

This woman’s TWINS were born naturally, vaginally, 2 days later. ♥ Congrats, proud dancin’ mama and papa!

  16. Marla Taviano says:

She gave birth to TWO 7+ pounders. Wowza!!

  17. Jeri says:

This is AWESOME! These boys are going to be sooooooo embarrassed when they grow up and see this. They are going to have so much FUN with parents like this. CONGRATULATIONS on 2 healthy baby boys!!

  18. Judi says:

Awesome indeed. My own twin pregnancy was rough..I was 42, and developed eclampsia, so at 7 weeks early (32 weeks) they had to take them via C section, unfortunately. Even that early, they were 4;b 1oz and 4 lb 8 oz, and though put in NICU for safety, did not require anything but basics, which was WAY more than the others in there! And those were singles!

Anyway, these parents are wonderful. Contratulations, guys.

  19. Katrina says:

That was AMAZING!!! I just had my baby and I worked out REALLY hard on the treadmill and then did a Zumba class, and it made the baby come less than 12 hours later.

  20. Tanya says:

Haha, that’s awesome! I WISH I’d had that much energy at the end of my pregnancies! lol

  21. Mary says:

Thats too cute! I wish I had that much energy lol

  24. Gabrielle says:

You are too cute! Also, way to have an amazing prego body and beautiful belly!!!

  25. deb says:

I am trying to not be stereotypical~ but I hope the dad gets beyond dressing like 12 yr old hip hopper~ I also don’t see how this helped induce labor if it took two days…and she was already oer due…with TWINS. It also seems like the motion could have made the babies move about and get out of position and they are blessed the cords didn’t wrap around.
Was it cute? Yeah~ and kudos for having that much energy.

  26. Catherine says:

Amazing! No wonder you made it through labor unmedicated, with energy and flexibility and mojo like that!!!

  27. bridgett says:

have to say.. jealous! at about 20 weeks pregnant with my daughter.. I couldn’t walk. She was laying a on a nerve. Then at 28 weeks. I was put on bed rest due to Previa. Good job mama.

  33. Corey M says:

This woman is pretty amazing. First off she doesn’t even look pregnant except from the front. She looks like she has gained no weight any were except her belly. And Secondly she had twins with no medication!!!

  34. Kristen says:

    That’s hilarious! Love it.

Oh, I just don’t know how to react! This girl is awesome! Part of me is cheering her on but the other part of me is saying go sit down! My twin boys are just a year old right now and if I were to be doing that I would have been a big contracting mess! Just watching this I’m almost having contractions. So what happened? I’m dieing to find out!

  37. Hmmmm says:

Too bad she does not realize that the dance show she did had nothing to do with her going into labor…lol! Regardless, babies come when they are ready and it does not matter what you do!

  51. Misti says:

Great! Loved it. Wish you lots Blessings.

  52. Sarah says:

@HMMMM, who ever you are… exercising during pregnancy and labor is proven to help start and speed up labor, why else would it be recommended to go to Lamaze classes while pregnant? Stop being such a pessimist and just watch the happy couple dance with their unborn children.

  53. Lora Morand says:

I had twins at 39 weeks . I can’t imagine going past your due date! Awesome video! I loved it!

  54. michelle says:

  55. Krista from The Playdate Crashers says:

  56. Toni Paulk says:

I sooo love it! Thats how you get um dun! And to see dad join in was amazing!

  57. April says:

    Hilarious!

  58. Jessica says:

This was fantastic and super cute.

@Deb – Seriously? He was obviously dressed up for the video and they were both having fun. And if you think dancing will cause the umbilical cords to wrap around them or for them to be jostled out of position you need read up on h

  59. Jessica says:

    *how pregnancy works and progresses.

As for everyone else saying this didn’t help- you don’t know that. It’s been proven that exercise helps induce labour and that’s what she was doIng.

  60. scorzi says:

I know it’s not true but I’m looking at her like her stomach is an egg and I’m like “Don’t break it! Be careful!”

  61. pdoula says:

I absolutely love this and the fact that her husband jumps right in there with her.
As for the haters–and um why are they even watching if they don’t like it–they were at home. Why shouldn’t he be dressed comfortably. Should he have been in a tie to jump around with his wife? And movement does cause the baby to change position. It’s called gravity and they move down? What other position are 2 full term babies going to move to? They have no room. As for the dancing bein the cause for a cord to get wrapped around their necks–think a little bit harder about that on your own, maybe do some actual research instead of repeating what someone told you and come on into the 21st century! ;)

  62. Tiffany H. says:

Wow!!! I wish I could have had that much energy and I was never pregnant with twins or even made it to 40 wks– way to go MAMA!! You look fantastic and those babies seem to have two pretty awesome parents : ) You guys really know how to shake it!! Awesome! I loved it!!

  63. Caitlin says:

    SHE ROCKS!

  64. Caitlin says:

My 3 year old has made me play the video 3 times and he told me, “Now they will want to come out, because that mom is cool!!!!”

  65. lisa says:

did they have them babies yet??? lol
I love this video!!! So cute!!!

  66. Rose says:

This was an awesome video I laughed my butt off! You look so good and kudos for being able to dance like this especially carrying twins and over 40 weeks:) I love to dance and can really relate to this because although I am not carrying twins, I am carrying my baby girl big…. and at the end of 33 weeks this is exactly how I feel right now; get them out I am done and would gladly try to dance if I was in the same situation! So thank you for the inspiring and hilarious video this made my day!! Congratulations on the little cuties and have fun:)

Hey there – Jen here, dancer/mom from this video. Just thought I’d stop by and say “hi” and thank you all for helping to make this crazy video such a huge hit.

So we made this video with the intention of ONLY every showing it to family members, but somehow got talked into posting it on facebook, then youtube and BAM – instant hit.

The twins were born healthy and 100% naturally a few days after the video (I started having mild, but regular, contractions the next day and went into active labor about 48 hours after the video). If you’re interested, you can read the birth story over on my blog: http://nothingsandnotions.blogspot.com/2011/11/weston-and-isaacs-birth-story-part-1.html

Weston and Isaac are now happy 7-month olds and delighting my husband and I every day with their sweet, funny, twin antics. Can’t wait to embarrass them with this video some day!
