People name their kids after stuff they like all the time. Or they just name their babies weird things like Pilot or North or Bear. So I can’t say I’m really all that surprised that a couple from Alabama named their son after the football team there.
No, not the coach, not a player, the Crimson Tide football team.
As AL.com reports, Summer and Steven Steele had a new baby boy on Dec. 17 and they named him Krimson Tyde.
“The reason we named him Krimson is that we are big Alabama fans and it is a very unique name and we loved it,” Summer Steele told Alabama Media Group on Sunday.
The story of little Krimson Tyde has since gone viral–and the reaction hasn’t been good.
Steele tells nola.com that she’s been surprised by that and that if people have nothing nice to say about it they shouldn’t say anything at all. “I’m very shocked, I didn’t think people would make a very big deal about it,” said Steele.
Steele went on Facebook to make clear the baby’s gender after media outlets reported that Krimson was a girl.
The Steeles aren’t the first to name a child after an sports team in Alabama. According to AL.com, there are 25 girls in Alabama named Crimson and six girls named Auburn were born in 2012.
What do you think? Awful name or not all that bad?
