Am I in Labour or What?!Selena Mills
Today I’m 39 weeks pregnant. And I am not sure if I am in active labour or ‘pre-labour’.
How is it that I can forget what a real contraction feels like?
To really know if I am in labour or not?
Apparently I’m not the only woman who suffers from this lapse in memory.
In speaking with my good friend over the weekend, she too – was hard pressed to remember what a contraction truly feels like. Are we cuckoo?
Yes, yes – there’s the pain. But. All this stuff can go on for days, sometimes weeks!
As we all know every birthing is different – from when one’s water breaks to those other signs that that help the certainty along, sometimes they don’t go down with as much notice as one would like.
Until your 9 cm. dilated, or days after your contractions started. With my first – it was like clockwork. My water broke at 5am, followed by the ‘show’ and contractions.
This past week has brought me nights of surging, but nothing else. Which as I was told by my midwife today, are completely normal – especially with my births being so close together.
So. I know one can’t control the birthing process, but dear sweet babe you can totally make your debut now!
Your auntie and elder are home this week to be by our side during your incredible journey and it would be super awesome for me (your mom), for them to be there. We have hard work ahead of us!
Our midwife kindly did the ‘ole sweep sweep for us today, informing me that I’m 3 cm dilated – giving me an extra little, erm…. encouragement…to see if she couldn’t help push things along.
Ever since, I’ve been having more regular/intense surges (which I know are regular after an internal) – although I’m inclined to think not as intense as real ones. But who knows! I suppose it will just hit me in time to get on the road to the hospital, if other the other ‘signs’ don’t happen…
I would much rather go into labour a few days early and have my full support team available than not.
What about you? Were you anxious in the final days of your pregnancy? Did your support team have incredibly busy schedules during one of the most unpredictable times of your life? How did you deal aside from not trying every natural trick in the book to get the show on the road?
