Beyonce Hates The Way Jay-Z Smells And Other Pregnancy Smell Tales
When I was pregnant with Henry I loved the smell of paint. And turpentine. Not exactly the healthiest thing to be inhaling, yeah?
Lucky for me the newsroom in which I worked was under construction so on my way to the vending machine for my daily diet of whatever my spare change could buy, I’d loiter near freshly painted walls smelling to my heart’s delight.
Weird, right? Paint and turpentine. But you know what smell I absolutely couldn’t stand… Yep, you guessed it! Beyonce and I finally have something in common…
According to the Daily News and just about every other media outlet, Beyonce hates the way her man smells.
“My nose is like doot doot doot,” the 30 year old singer said, imitating a radar. “I smell everything…
“If [something] smells bad, I smell it,” Beyonce revealed to Entertainment Tonight. “My husband’s fragrance, this one that I always love, I hate right now.”
Word. My husband uses Right Guard deodorant and I don’t know if he bathes in the stuff or what but when I was pregnant with Henry the odor in the bathroom damn near killed me every morning. Had to air it out for hours after Serge finished with his morning ablutions and still, I swear the stuff lingered until his next application. As Nicole White wrote last week, the pregnant nose always knows.
The other worst pregnancy smell ever? Dog food. I would retch every morning while feeding the dogs. Every morning.
Tell me, what was or is your absolute worst smell while pregnant?

The smell of hotpockets/lean pockets. I used to eat them on a regular bases and then one day while pregnant I smelled it cooking and it caused me to vomit! That was with my 1st son and still to this day I can not stand the smell!
I hate the way my husband smells…his shampoo, his deodorant, his breath, everything. I’m only 14 weeks in, and he’s been sleeping on the couch since week 4 because he sleeps with his mouth open, and the night breath kills me. And if he wants any lovin, no kissing! Yuck!
Chemicals are not good for any of us, as we all know and can even cause illnesses like asthma and disorders in babies, even cancer in adults when around long term. Most of the time when a woman is pregnant she is at her most sensitive state and man-made chemicals should be avoided. This is why Dr. Oz says humans shouldn’t wear deodorants because just like mammals that’s why we are attracted to each other and that’s how we know we are compatible.
My fiance’s cologne. He rarely wears it (and won’t be for some time now, lol), but he put some on one day because we had a date planned. And I had to tell him, never again wear that while I’ve got a “super” nose. I felt bad, because he knows I normally like it and think he smells good and I was telling him his effort on our date night wasn’t good enough.
Cigarette smoke. I’ve always hated the smell (and it gives me a headache and sore throat and makes me irritable), but I really couldn’t stand it when I was pregnant. Also, B.O. If one of my colleagues came in without showering, I could always tell (we worked in one small room together).
Cat food, old woman perfume
My older sons! The poor kids couldn’t walk past me without me asking if he needed a shower!
omg, the dog food!!!!!!!!! i can’t handle it.
(and thanks for the link.)
Oddly enough, hand soap pulls on my gag reflex right now. Every single one of them smells. I have to wash my hands with dish soap which is a little more tolarable. And yes, cat food. Yuck.
Garlic and onions! And strangely, shea butter. God, that stuff made me want to puke. And also, car exhaust. I wasn’t trying to smell it, but it can be hard to avoid catching a whiff. I LOVED the smells of bacon, coffee, and lavender.
Chicken. I made chicken soup one night when I wasn’t feeling well and I ended up throwing it out because I couldn’t stand the smell of it. Then everything started to smell like chicken and meat including my morning coffee. I couldn’t drink or stand the smell of coffee for months. And garlic and onions.
Totally with you on the dog food. The only place I puked was in the grocery store after I went into the dog food aisle to buy dogfood early in my pregnancy. Was bad like that for all 3 pregnancies and I still have some residual gagging reflex when i feed the dog even now, 3 years after my last pregnancy.
during my first trimester, when I was really sick, I hated the way my husband smells. All of it. When he would shave I could smell the shaving cream, his clothes, his breath. It was horrible. The other thing I couldn’t stand was laundry detergent. I discovered baking soda. My favorite smell is the clorox disinfectant wipes I use to wipe tables after work.
I didn’t mind scents. Except the pizza my boyfriend brought in the room while I was pushing… Such a clueless man! Lol.
I could not stand the smell of cocoa butter! I had been told that it would help with stretch marks and so I got some the when I opened it to put some on my stretch marks I started gagging. Yuck! She is now 9 months old and I still can’t stand the smell and am making due with my stretch marks ready to have another baby!
My husband is a chef. Greeting him after he had been working seriously made me gag. Welcome home honey, don’t come near me or I’ll puke!
