Meet (John) Braxton Hicks - Possibly the Most Hated Man in Late Pregnancy

You know, those Braxton Hicks that cause crazy tightening in your abdomen area – BUT aren’t consistent so the classification isn’t real labor, it’s fake labor.

Well did you know there was actually someone who these aweful fake things are named after?

Braxton Hicks are named after the English doctor who first described them. In 1872, John Braxton Hicks investigated the later stages of pregnancy and noted that many women felt contractions without being near birth.[2] This process was usually painless but caused women confusion as to whether or not they were going into actual labor. It has since been found that Braxton Hicks’ contractions are much less noticeable during exercise, whereas real contractions are not. Source: wikipedia

Talk about SUCKAGE.  What a legacy this man left. He described something that women hate and now 139 years later women are still cursing your name because what you described you were named after you!

As I sit here, at 2:08 am in the morning uncomfortable and unable to focus – but nothing consistent – I CURSE you BRAXTON HICKS.

Practice contractions. Fake labor. Whatever. These suck. (photo source: jellybeanchronicles)
