When I was in labor with my second son, my husband thought he was some sort of DJ comedian. No joke… he sat at the computer going through our mp3′s and playing only the songs he knew he would get a laugh out of everyone. It certainly helped to lighten the mood with a long back labor.
Months later I sat down and tried to remember to the best of my ability the hysterical songs that he played, and I put together a great playlist of songs, off of what he amused us with that Saturday night.
If Your Going Through Hell – Rodney Adkins Because labor is just a walk in the park right?
I Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore – Journey Adding insult to injury right?
Don’t Worry Be Happy – Bob Marley Yeah, and while you are at it… why not just light up?
Hey Mama – Black Eyed Peas
I Saw The Sign – Ace of Base
Shake That Ass – Eminem & Nate Dogg I have to admit, dancing in labor did help take my mind off of the pain!
I Will Get By – Grateful Dead I mean, in the end, I did get by…
The James Bond Theme Because I wanted to think about Pierce Brosnan while in labor… especially after Mrs. Doubtfire!
One Hot Mama – Trace Adkins Because I felt so hot after being in labor for a day!
Work It – Missy Elliot
Bad to the Bone – George Therogood I actually think this one set the tone for my difficult second sons personality… oops!
On and On – Eryka Badu Yes, I had the worlds longest labor, On and On described it great!
Push It – Salt n’ Peppa While I never made it to the pushing phase, I still find it hysterical!
Dat’ Just My Baby Daddy – Trick Daddy Because who doesnt need an early 90′s hit on paternity?
Everyone Have Fun Tonight – Wang Chung Because labor was a blast!
Rump Shaker – Wrex N’ Effex All I wanted to do was a zoom zoom zoom and a boom boom
Born to Run – The Boss
I Will Survive – Donna Summer Since by the end of it… I didn’t think I would make it!
American Baby – Dave Matthews Band
Freedom – George Michaels
Take it Slow – John Legend Which my second son certainly was doing!
Hangin’ Tough – New Kids On The Block Because who doesn’t want to fanticize about Donnie Walhberg in labor?
Stand Up For Your Rights – Bob Marley Sometimes Moms really need to fight for a VBAC
Eye Of The Tiger As I thought of Rocky!
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da – The Beatles
Baby You Got Me – The Roots & Eryka Badu
Drop It Like Its Hot – Snoop Dog
Anyway You Want It – Journey A goal of my birth plan also, just as any mother should!
Wild Ride – Kenny Chesney Exactly what our son has been giving us!
Look How Far We’ve Come – Matchbox 20
Nothin’ But a Good Time – Poison Yeah! A ball!
All Night Long – The Roots & Eryka Badu Yup, because I didn’t get any sleep at all that night!
Rock You Like a Hurricane – The Scorpions
I am sure most of you would have gotten a huge kick out of it as everyone in the room, and who came to the hospital with us that night did. Be sure to add some of these songs to your own birth play list… everyone needs a smile while in labor!
