Choosing a Pediatrician – What Should I Look For?

What should I look for in a pediatrician?

There are a lot of things I didn’t know about pregnancy until this year.  I always assumed there were a lot of decisions to be made, research to be done, and classes to take to prepare.  But even so, I never could have imagined how much information is thrown at us preggos every time we turn around.

And no matter how many big items I seem to check off my list, it doesn’t really seem to be shrinking.  With just 7 weeks left, I still have some big things to figure out.  One of the most important being…we need a pediatrician!  Seriously, did everyone else know that you needed to find your babies doctor before giving birth?  Just me?  Hmmm.

Since I haven’t had any experience with a pediatrician since visiting one myself 20 years ago, I’m not entirely sure what I should be looking for and asking when choosing once for our baby.  A little help?

One of the biggest factors for us with all care providers is making sure we find doctors who are supportive of our vegetarian lifestyle.  Since we are choosing to raise our children as vegetarians as well, we need to make sure that our pediatrician will be supportive of our decision.  Hopefully since we are in the very vegetarian-friendly city of Seattle, this shouldn’t be much of an issue!

But beyond what we eat, and what our insurance covers, I’m sure there are other things I should factor in when choosing a pediatrician.  Can any experienced moms help me figure this out?  With only seven weeks left, I need to pick someone soon!
