My nursery is ready to go, my hospital bag is (almost) all packed, and I’m feeling mostly ready to get this show on the road. The one (kind of major) thing that is still hanging over my head each day? What I am doing about diapers!
Who knew that going to the bathroom could be so darn complicated?
Our plan is to start off in disposables because I think it will simply be easiest for all parties involved. As of now I’ve bought three packs of newborn diapers — somewhere around 100 total. I am sure this is a gross underestimation, but I didn’t want to buy too many and then be stuck with them. Diapers ain’t cheap!
I have a drawer of cloth diapers (three different brands, 6 of each) all lined up and ready to go once we’re ready to transition over to them. The only problem? I have no idea what I’m doing! I realize that I’ve had plenty of time to research, prepare, and plan — and that there are countless online resources for learning how to cloth diaper effectively. But for some reason I find it all to be so overwhelming — wash it 8 times before you use it, make sure you hang it out to dry, only use certain detergents, etc. For something that is supposed to save us (a LOT of) money in the long run, it sure does feel like a lot of work right now.
I work from home and since I am lucky enough to have the flexibility and freedom to do so, I feel like it only makes sense to give cloth diapering a try. I am sure that once I get started it will make more sense, but for now I am feeling a little lost and overwhelmed by all the different options and suggestions. The next thing I need to figure out? Diaper disposal!
Off to research wet bags and Diaper Genies…
What did you decide to do about diapering? Any cloth diaper advice out there?
