Fat Tuesday, means Mardi Gras 2011 is well underway. For those not in the know, Fat Tuesday is French for Mardi Gras. It’s the period before Ash Wednesday wherein people eat richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of Lent. Lent is when Christians sacrifice for Jesus in the time leading up to Easter.
I’m not a religious person AT ALL but what an excellent opportunity for pregnant Christian women to get their food on, you know what I’m saying? Hey! I’m eating for God so BACK OFF!
The smorgasbord of amazing foods that surround the tradition of Fat Tuesday could blow a pregnant woman’s mind. Let’s take a closer gander at the traditional foods of Fat Tuesday.
Jambalaya: Similar to Spanish Paella. Usually contains chicken, sausage, rice, tomatoes, celery, and spices.
Gumbo: A thick stew of meat and seafood
Etouffee: A Cajun dish of smothered meat or seafood
Paczki: Polish doughnuts, topped with powdered sugar or icing, and filled with custard.
Beignets: Similar to Paczki but usually contain a maple or fruit filling.
Of course, the pregnant ladies must refrain from the cocktails but Babble has a solution. Here’s a list of safe cocktails for pregnant women… Mocktails, if you will: Safe Drinks For Pregnant Women.
So click away and enjoy Fat Tuesday whether you’re Christian or not. I’m thinking some Paczki sounds really good with a coffee right about now. But a word of warning: Don’t call any pregnant women fat today or you might not live to see Lent.
