One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is to shop for vintage pieces to add to my wardrobe. I mostly keep an eye out for pieces worn in the 1950’s, things like sweaters, cardigans, winter coats, and tall boots. I also love finding cool jewelry pieces like beaded necklaces and rhinestone broaches, which can easily be added to any modern wardrobe. Oh, did I mention I LOVE vintage purses?
One thing I’ve realized over the last few months, is that finding vintage maternity fashion is no easy task. Dare I say it’s virtually impossible if you don’t know the proper places to search.
While hunting down vintage and retro maternity fashion can be tricky, it’s not totally impossible.
Places to shop for vintage maternity (and 5 of my favorite finds):
1. Ebay is a great place to start, as the selections is ever revolving and changing. Use keywords such as “vintage maternity clothes” or “vintage maternity top” to yield your best results. Since most sales are final, always make sure check the garments measurements against something you already own.
2. Etsy. I love this website for all it’s handmade lovely, but did you know the site also sells vintage? Something is considered “vintage” when it’s over 20 years old. Again, search keywords such as “vintage maternity” to find amazing outfits from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and yes, even the ’80’s.
3. Thrift stores, vintage and retro shops, and garage Sales. There is no easy or quick way to do this, but sometimes the best things are found digging through the mothballs. If you have some fantastic vintage shops in your town or city, it might be worth a call to ask the shop owner if they know of anything off hand that might be in their inventory.
