About two weeks ago, I posted my review of the new Baby Cheapskate book, The Baby Cheapskate Guide to Bargains. And today, I’m giving away a free copy! It’s packed with tips on what to buy, what’s not worth your money, and how to save more on the essentials for baby.

Click through to find out how you can win a copy.

To enter to win a copy of the book, simply leave a comment describing your biggest baby splurge and your biggest baby save.

Mine?  Our splurge was definitely the nursery – but I’m having loads of fun decorating. And my biggest save was our pack ‘n play, which I got for $50 from a consignment sale.

We’ll randomly pick a winner on May 8.  Good luck!

Our save is shopping garage sales for baby clothes. Our splurge is moving across the country and buying a house for when this kiddo shows up!

  2. Helen says:

Our biggest splurge was definitely the glider/rocker/recliner that I dropped way too much money for, but figured I needed comfort. As for the biggest baby save? I would say the brand new Moby wrap we picked up at a consignment sale last weekend for about half the price of the stores!

  3. Tricia says:

So far our biggest splurge is also our biggest save. I got a cherry wood crib, changing table and glider in mint condition for $400 from a friend! It’s really the only major thing I’ve bought for the baby thus far as I’ve had very generous parents who are shopaholics for their first grandbaby! As I get closer to the arrival, I’m assuming my splurges are going to increase so this would be a great way to help this thrifty girl save!!

  4. Leslie says:

Biggest splurge was a crib for baby, which in hind sight I wish I would’ve bought or asked friends for a used one to pass down. Biggest save was a Mai Tai carrier I was going to buy online for way too much money but found at a consignment shop for a quarter of the online price. Needless to say I scooped it up and both my daughter and I were very happy I bought it ! Many wonderful times carrying her around :)

  5. Pamela says:

We saved on baby clothes, I’ve had friends and coworkers who have all had boys, and the hand-me-downs have been a huge save! Splurged on our mini-co sleeper, so baby can be in our room at night.

  6. Molly says:

Our big splurge was the crib, but we’ve saved a lot of money by buying a used glider from CraigsList and a used jogging stroller from a consignment sale.

  7. Mandie P. says:

Biggest splurge: Bedding. So expensive, but so cute. (And matching everything.)
Biggest save: Boon bath toy holder. Found it a goodwill for $5!

  8. Melissa says:

splurge – putting an addition onto our house so baby could have a room! save – breastfeeding! no better way to save money! (not to mention the health benefits!)

  9. Lindsey says:

Our biggest splurge was on the crib. Our biggest save was buying clothes and gear at consignment shops and outlets.

  10. Alicia says:

We haven’t splurged yet, but we got a mini co-sleeper at our neighbors’ yard sale and plan to buy a replacement mattress for it, and we’ll still only have paid a small portion of its price.

  11. Dee says:

No splurges for us at all. On thing we really wanted to get new (for safety!) was the car seat, but one of the sets of grandparents gifted that to us! Our biggest save would be cloth diapering (got most of our stash at the baby shower) and breastfeeding! Yayyy!

  12. Theresia says:

Our biggest spurge was probably between the baby bedroom furniture and the stroller. Biggest save was on clothes; we got so many as gifts, we barely had to buy anything ourselves.

  13. Alexis F says:

Our biggest splurg was the stroller and our biggest save was the cradle a fried of our gave to us!

  14. Leanne says:

I did splurge on a Kate Spade diaper bag, but it was 75% off! ;-) Our biggest steal was a FREE glider for the nursery that my MIL is recovering and I am painting.

  15. EliseW says:

My biggest splurge was hands down the baby room furniture!! The price of the crib alone could’ve possibly outfitted the entire nursery but I HAD to have this one crib!! lol My biggest steal was a Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo I scored off of Craigslist for $25!!

  16. Michelle V. says:

Our biggest baby splurge was the rocker/glider and our biggest save was buying cloth diapers which will save us thousands of dollars, we plan on having one more baby after this one so the CD will take us for a long run!

  17. Jen says:

my biggest baby deal was 120 pampers swaddlers diapers for $8.62!! my biggest “splurge” was a radian carseat for over $250.

  18. Jennifer Thibodeaux says:

Our biggest splurge so far has been our infant carrier/ stroller combo at about $300! Our biggest save is taking a nice, gently used crib from my sister-in-law for free. As much as I wanted a new crib for my new little one, we just couldn’t afford to buy everything new!

  19. Becky Turner says:

Biggest splurge was probably pack n play, which was a waste of a lot of money. Best save so far has been clothes – I will not pay more than $1 for any item.

  20. wendy says:

our biggest save was hand me downs from friends & relatives for our boy! We realized that people were soooooo generous & nice when you have a baby because they understand. Our biggest splurge was the dutailer rocker/glider

  21. Kristen says:

I follow her blog and would love a copy of this book! My biggest splurge was newborn/baby pictures (seriously – I should have just invested in a top DSLR for what I paid!) Biggest save? I didn’t buy any newborn clothes!

  22. Chris says:

We’re due 9/30, so haven’t bought a lot yet, but I know our biggest splurge will be the crib. Biggest save will be books, since my wife’s parents kept all of hers.

  23. Rachel A says:

No splurges yet (I’m sure that will change in the next few months), but our biggest save has been using a midwife. Not that expense was a factor at all, but it’s going to be saving us thousands!

  24. Brittany says:

No big splurges but we did do the Baby R US trade and save event. We traded in old stuff and got 25% off a pack and play and a high chair. We are always on the look out for deals. We have a place that is called Kid to Kid that sells baby, child things that are gently used. Like searching for anything you always have to be careful when you shop there. I also look for samples. I am always looking for more ways to save and look forward to reading this book. Thanks

  25. Melissa says:

Second hand savings but the splurge will be the DVDs my husband wants to buy – the entire collection of Looney Toons, so the child will know quality cartoons. (Gotta love my boy)

  26. Shelby says:

Our biggest splurge was the nursery (cribs can be way too expensive!!!!) our save was buying clothes at garage sales and clearance racks.

  27. Anne says:

Our biggest splurge was the peg perego stroller and baby carrier combo, but well worth the money. Our biggest saving was the all the books, toys and gently used clothes that we got at the garage sales in the area.

  28. Stephanie C says:

Our biggest splurge so far is a full length couch so we can actually relax with baby when she comes! Our biggest save has been lots of hand-me-down and refinished furniture: crib, glider and dresser will all come from friends and family, thank goodness!

  29. LB says:

My biggest splurge was the ergo wrap… i had to have the petunia picklebottom one!

  30. ashley c says:

biggest splurge was the crib and biggest save was a $1 jogging stroller from a friend!!!

Saving: buying clothing for my girls on consignment stores. Splurge: tickets to go to Spain to visit friends and family.

I haven’t made any splurges as I have no job and no money. Saving: Hand me down clothes from a friends sister.

  33. Leah S says:

love buying clothing but managed to get a great price on the crib!

  34. Miranda says:

Our biggest baby splurge was on our baby swing. And our cheapest baby splurge was on clothes since we have 3 boys and we save all our boys’ clothes and shoes to use them as hand me downs for all 3 boys.
