There’s something so incredible about witnessing raw human emotion. I’ve only ever been part of two family pregnancy announcements, both of which were cleverly done — and both of which were years ago, long before everyone started filming them.
My ex’s sister announced her pregnancy to the family with an actual bun in the oven. She made a cute toothpick-sign for it, and shocked us as we opened the oven to see what was cooking. My own brother and his wife announced their pregnancy after we all opened Christmas gifts by handing out cards to each of us that we were instructed to open at the same time. I ripped right through mine, because I’m not the most patient person and started screaming at the news. My mother was still fumbling with hers, and had an even tougher time opening it as everyone else began screaming one by one.
That’s probably one of the biggest reasons why I love when people capture their pregnancy announcements on video. Some are super creative, and others are just so darn simple — like this one, recently posted to YouTube, of a grandpa’s reaction to pregnancy. I dare you not to get teary eyed.
