If you weren’t environmentally conscious already, chances are that pregnancy has made you a little more so. There’s nothing like being the caretaker of a tiny vulnerable life to make you hyperaware of the dangers that lurk in all corners of our earth. And make you want to make the earth a better place.
“Green” has become a household word and awareness is growing by the day. Still, people don’t always know what to do about it. Environmental issues can be confusing, and it’s hard to know what steps to take to do best by both your body and the world we live in.
Pioneering enviroblog Treehugger has compiled highlights from green parenting blog Envirotots to create a Green Pregnancy Primer. Click on and start greening up your pregnancy!
In addition to lots of info on organic diet and non-toxic products, the list contained a couple of practical suggestions:
If you have a formal event to attend, consider using a service that rents maternity formalwear rather than buying an outfit you’ll wear only once. Formal maternity clothing is usually worn very few times, even if it’s handed down, since seasons, timing of formal events and pregnancy sizes don’t often align.
It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that you must have every baby product on the market. You’re about to enter into unknown territory, and these products are designed—and marketed—to seem indispensable. But you probably need less than you think. Check out their lists, ask friends, and think twice about piling up on gadgets before you know what you and your baby need. You’ll save money, and a pile of plastic, too.
