I Mean, What Do You Do With The Belly Cast?

By Devan McGuinness |

What Do You Do With The Belly CastI have been day-dreaming about being pregnant again for nearly a year now. We have been actively trying to get pregnant for about 6 months and the day-dreaming hasn’t stopped.

It will be the last baby for us and with that I will close a chapter on this part of life that I just love! I love being pregnant, I love watching my body grow and change and feeling the baby move. I am seriously going to have a hard time closing the door on more (I would totally have like 8 kids if it was favorable to my husband and kids).

Since this will be the last one, I have been going over an imaginary check-list in my head of things I have to do. I want to make sure I soak in all the kicks and growing pains. I want to get the baby’s heartbeat audio as we have with our other kids, I want to take cute weekly belly photos for the scrapbook I make for the kids and I have been debating getting a belly cast done. I’ll be honest though, I am kind of on the fence about it.

There are some crazy creative and amazing artists out there and with the new age of Pinterest and photo-sharing sites, ideas are rampant for cute ways to decorate them. I understand the want to document this amazing time in your life — a pregnant belly is gorgeous and there will be a time where you will want to look back at how big you were.

But, I wonder what do you do with the cast? Do you hang it up in the nursery? I would be deathly afraid of breaking it & what do you do with it when the kid is too old for a ‘nursery’?

I want to know your thoughts — did you (or will you) get a belly cast done? What did you do with it or what plans do you have for it?

If I ever get the chance to get pregnant, I plan on doing one. A lady that I use to nanny for years ago had one when she was pregnant with her daughter, she just had it beautifully painted and sitting on the floor in the corner of the nursery. I’m not sure what she did with it after they didn’t need a nursery though. :) Good luck!

No way- not for me. Yes, pregnancy is wonderful but I had absolutely no desire to document my stomach with a full size replica. That seems pointless to me. I am anti-clutter, and would find a plaster belly cast to be the ultimate in clutter, because you can’t do anything with it. It would just sit there and take up space.

I would have to say…you could use it to serve chips and dip at parties. Otherwise I consider it useless.

I think it is a beautiful keepsake if you have had a lot of pregnancies and this is supposed to be your last one. It can make a wonderful memory.
