Lessons from Newborn Care 101

Last week, my husband and I took a newborn care class at our hospital. It was $15 a person and totally worth every cent – you see, we have zero newborn care experience… I have never even changed a diaper.

Although some of the information was basic and derieved from commonsense (“Don’t shake a baby!”), I did learn some very interesting facts.  Here’s what we took away from Newborn Care 101.

Expect them (not you) to sleep

One of the fun facts we learned: a newborn baby sleeps a total of 16 hours a day! Wow. But — and this a big but — they only sleep for periods of 15 minutes to 4 hours (and that's if you're lucky).
