There’s nothing cuter than showing off your well-dressed bump, so look for sweaters that have a lot of stretch. These knits will grow with you throughout your pregnancy, so they’re a good investment for this season and beyond. Also, soft fabrics are key since a pregnant woman’s skin can be very sensitive.
Cardigans are always a smart option for moms-to-be; even on the coldest days, expecting mothers are often still hot (there’s literally a bun in the oven!), so choose knits that are easy to take off and put back on when needed. The cinched waist of this cozy version from my Target collection accents your figure and the versatile heather gray will go with everything.
Tips for Purchasing a Maternity Coat
When shopping for maternity outerwear, consider the following rules of thumb. First, opt for a version with a belt – you can tie it above the bump to create definition or fasten the belt in back and wear it open for a more casual look.
Second, look for a coat that hits at the knee or above. A longer cut will overwhelm your shape. Lastly, select a solid, neutral color. You’ll be wearing it daily so make sure that it’s easy to pair with any outfit in your winter wardrobe.
Alternatively, if you layer correctly, you can continue to wear the coats you already own – simply wear them unbuttoned over a thick sweater and a tank.
Chic Winter Extras
The best part of cold-weather dressing is piling on toasty accessories – your pregnancy is just as good of a time as any to have fun with hats, scarves and gloves because they have no sizes.
I always opt for earmuffs to avoid the dreaded hat-hair. The furry versions are especially fun and add a trendy dose of style to your winter look. To keep fingers warm, you can never go wrong with a beautiful leather glove lined with something soft, like this lady-like lambskin pair from Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Finally, I love a low rubber wedge for winter footwear – you get a little lift but you’re still very stable. These embellished Hunter boots have just the right amount of height and also will carry you through the spring season.
