My Fern-Themed Baby Shower

By Lauren Hartmann |

This weekend my beautiful friends hosted my first baby shower for me and it was beyond lovely.

My favorite thing about it was that it didn’t really look like a “baby shower”.  It just looked like a pretty party.  It was simple and sweet with a lot of thoughtful DIY details that were just my style and I love that my friends took that into consideration instead of making it super cutesy.

The theme was “ferns” because the name of our baby-to-be will be Fern.  Clever, no?  I’m kind of in love with her name, so I thought it was fitting.

See the photos from my shower after the jump!

Ferns in mismatched vessels and yarn-wrapped "F"'s create a cozy feel with their mixed textures.

Guests got to take home these adorable little pom-pom bouquets - I love the twigs used as sticks. It's a nice way to continue the natural theme.

Pretty textures to greet guests as they entered the party.

The only "game" was guessing Fern's birthday (thank goodness!).

  • Delicious brunch spread

I adore brunch and this food was out-of-this-world delicious! Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, blueberry muffins, cinnamon scones, egg casserole, pecan french toast....Yum!

  • Homemade ginger ale

The drinks were pregnancy friendly, including this amazing ginger ale made from scratch by my friend's helpful husband.

  • Hot cocoa bar

Homemade hot cocoa to add your own flavors to: chopped up peppermint sticks, peppermint chocolates, truffles and of course fresh whipped cream.

  • Finger Knitting

Instead of games guests were taught how to finger knit garlands. The yarn was in my nursery colors so guests could make garlands for Fern's nursery or take them home for themselves. This was also nice, because it gave guests something to do while I was opening presents thus making the present opening process a little less awkward.
