New Legislation Would Back Teens Into A Corner

Anti-Abortion Advocates Protest

We all know that girl from out youth who thought she may have been pregnant and had no one she could really go to and talk about it, but maybe you. I know I did.

Her parents were strict, and would have flipped out, and sent her away like it was 1960 if they found out she was pregnant. Either that or they would have forced her into motherhood despite her wishes to not take that path.  Virtually no choice in her own reproductive health at all.  Their way, or the highway.

Well new legislation proposed would now criminalize minors, or anyone who helped them cross state lines to have an abortion in attempt to avoid parental notification laws, or other new laws restriction abortion options for women.

Unfortunately for the minors who are going to be impacted by this law, it is not going to help, but only further hurt these young girls, and boys who already feel like they have no where to turn, or no one to turn to.

After reading the initial news on this over at Jezebel.com my first reaction was:

Just what these young girls need! More reasons to have their boyfriend push them down a flight of stairs or have their BFF try and perform an at home abortion.

Something we are already starting to see with the restrictions on abortions.  Not only that but we certainly may see an increase in the prom mom types also.

Young girls are going to feel trapped, like they have no options, when in reality they should be able to make their own choices, no matter what they are… including becoming a mother at whatever age they choose.   We would not see bans like this over girls who wishes to continue their pregnancy, so why should we further victimize one specific group or put them in danger?

Of course as a parent I understand the concern parents have over their minor child crossing state lines for a surgical procedure which may come with complications. But the same parents should be even more worried about the extreme measures their teen may take to end the pregnancy herself.

Another step backwards for women in America!
