New Post from Liz Lange! Dressing for the Holidays When Expecting

With Thanksgiving behind us and holiday party invitations rolling in, the stress of dressing a baby bump for social outings can start to eclipse the merry seasonal spirit. Nothing ignites more fear in a pregnant woman than an invite to a dressy event!

Before the panic sets in, remember there is no need to be the fanciest person in the room I promise that nobody expects you and your belly to arrive in head-to-toe sequins. You can easily achieve a festive look by dressing in the right color palette, and playing up your hair, makeup and accessories.

Follow these tips to create an effortless holiday look:

Attire
Keep your outfit simple and comfortable. Pick a top or a dress in a solid jewel-tone shade the colors are on-trend and have seasonal flair. This cowl-neck sweater from my Target collection has a flattering fit and is available in berry, teal and plum hues. On the bottom, opt for a great pair of straight-legged trousers or dark jeans.

Beauty
You’ll be amazed how a dramatic eye or fun lipstick shade elevates your outfit to a party-ready level. I love creating a 1960s look with strong black liner and have found that Urban Decay Glide-On Eye Pencil is effortless and easy to apply. To highlight your pregnancy glow, exfoliate skin pre-party and smooth on a great tinted moisturizer for full-on radiance. Laura Mercier’s illuminating version is my personal favorite. Finally, red nails are fun and full of holiday cheer.

The Extras
As you all know by now, I’m big on bold accessories and the holidays are no exception! A fun cocktail ring, statement necklace, or big gold cuffs are perfect for jazzing up an outfit. Another great trick for instantly upgrading your ensemble is to swap out your daytime carry-all for a small, metallic clutch. This one from Target has a detachable shoulder strap that’s great for freeing up hands for hors d’oeuvres.

Lastly, just because you won’t be indulging in champagne this holiday season doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your own pregnancy-appropriate cocktail. When I was pregnant, I switched to club soda with asplash of cranberry juice it’s festive, refreshing and still my drink of choice today.

Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!

-Liz
