No More BPA in the Golden State?

These protected glass bottles by Mini Wee Go are one of a handful of BPA-free baby bottles.

Their efforts have failed in the past, but maybe this year the California State Sentate can put BPA to rest, for good.

The endocrine-disrupting, plastic chemical bisphenol A has been linked to increased risk of cancers, reproductive issues, and diabetes, and has been traced in everything from grocery receipts to shopping bags. But nowhere is its presence more unwelcome than in baby products.

Yesterday the California state senate voted to ban BPA from sippy cups and baby bottled sold statewide. The Toxin-Free Infants and Toddlers Act will head back to the Assembly for amendments and a final vote later this year, but this seems to be a step in the right direction, and lets hope other states will follow suit.

This mom, for one, is tired of checking labels like a toxicologist. Here’s to no more BPA!
