It’s 7:15 pm in Northwest Ohio and the current temperature is 99°. Add in the humidity and the heat index is a stifling 110°—which is actually down a few degrees from what it was around an hour ago. That my friends is hot.
Stiflingly hot for anybody that has to be outside. And especially hot when you are just about eight months pregnant and have a healthy protruding baby belly.
I’ll take the air conditioned inside on days like this, thank you very much.
However, staying in the house all day isn’t really an option with an energetic four year old. Honestly, it isn’t really an option for me either. I can’t stay in the house all day without going a little stir crazy. Plus, it’s summer. Summers are meant to be spent outside doing all the things that are impossible to do when there is 5 inches of snow on the ground.Like swimming.
I don’t have a maternity swim suit in my arsenal of cute maternity clothes. Fortunately I don’t need to buy one either. A few months ago I got a suit from Land’s End that, while not maternity, fits me and my growing baby belly perfectly. Plus, it is ridiculously cute in my opinion. When I was picking out the swim suit I was just about four months pregnant and thought that a one piece might not work out for me. Instead I picked up a tankini top and a skirted bottom that I just love.
The top supports my breasts and the longer tank part has stretched nicely as my belly has gotten bigger and bigger as the months have gone by. The bottoms are flattering and the skirt makes me feel super cute while still covering all that needs to be covered. It also has stretched well with my growing baby belly so I don’t have this weird little gap of skin showing between the top and the bottoms.
And so I am embracing the pool and the beach this year. I’m happy to be out in the sun playing in the water and the sand with my four year old. I feel cute and confident in my suit and I’m so glad that I don’t feel like I need to be miserable all covered up and not enjoying all that the beach and pool has to offer during this really hot summer weather.
Unfortunately, I don’t think all pregnant women feel the same.
What I want to know from YOU is, are you sporting a swim suit this summer? If so, do you feel beautiful in it? If you are refusing to put on a suit, why?
