It's not easy to judge the best of the best maternity bras, since differently shaped bodies fit in differently shaped bras. So we assembled a team of new and seasoned moms and consulted with maternity bra expert Jenn Sullivan, owner of the Hudson Valley-based Waddle-n-Swaddle boutique and wellness center, for their opinions.
It's impossible to know just how large your postpartum breasts will be, so it's best to hold off on a pricey nursing bra collection until your milk comes in. We picked a few favorites that are designed to grow and stretch to accommodate engorgement and the early breastfeeding weeks. Try not to make a serious investment until after your milk supply stabilizes - usually after 6 weeks. When you're ready to buy well-fitting, supportive nursing bras, we absolutely recommend getting a quality bra fitting at a local specialty store. Proper bra fitting is always important, but even more so now that too-tight bras can impair milk drainage and cause breast infections.

BEST UNDERWIRE MATERNITY BRA | Pea in a Pod Full Support Soft Cup Underwire Maternity Bra
If you prefer the support of underwire (especially during this time of growth), we love this full-support, soft-cup maternity bra from Pea in a Pod. Besides being comfortable (which is a must!), the bra actually looks quite pretty on and feels more like a regular bra than a sports bra. (Keep in mind, however, that this is strictly a maternity bra rather than a nursing bra.) And if you’re worried about damaging your milk ducts, most lingerie stores have employees certified in bra fittings – which we can’t recommend enough. Even if you’ve never had a problem fitting yourself, it’s more important now than ever to have a bra that fits correctly.
