I admitted last week that I was hesitant about walking down the runway during New York City’s Fashion Week, especially because I was doing it 37 weeks pregnant. I am swollen and very self concious, so imagine my fear when I knew I’d be walking in front of hundreds of on-lookers, and that’s with clothes on!
A London glamour model had nothing to fear as she glowed down the runway during London’s Fashion week, completely nude! The former Miss Wales, Sophia Cahill, is eight months pregnant and walked the catwalk with four other nude models to debut a designer’s collection of fashionable hats.
Robin Coles, the designer of the hats, told the Daily Mail that she really wanted Cahill, a friend of hers, to walk the runway during her show.
“‘She was one person I knew would be more than happy to get her kit off. I thought it would be nice she would be pregnant for the show. You never see that kind of thing in fashion.”
It is true, it’s very rare to see a visibly pregnant woman walk the runway, but it’s even more rare to see one walk the runway naked.
The designer admitted to wanting her models walking in nothing but the hats for publicity. “As an unknown designer you have to find ways of getting people to your show,” she said.
People are certainly talking about it, that’s for sure. While I can understand her need for publicity, I’m not sure if people were going to be paying much attention to her hats as much as they were the naked men and women that were walking across the catwalk.
I give Cahill a lot of credit for strutting her pregnant body down the runway at eight months pregnant. I hardly had the guts to do it with maternity clothes, but she is showing off everything and I think she looks beautiful doing it. More fashion designers should embrace the pregnant body and show it off during fashion week, clothed or not!
What do you think of her walking the runway naked eight months pregnant?
