A 22-year-old pregnant woman who was struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking home from work gave birth to a baby girl before dying.
According to Yahoo, San Marcos police say Diann Ford was returning from her job at Long John Silver’s late Tuesday when she was hit. Ford, who was 37 weeks pregnant, was taken to an Austin, Texas hospital that night.
She gave birth by cesarean section the next day. The newborn baby girl was taken to the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit. Ford died Thursday.
As Carolyn Castiglia reports on Strollerderby, 22-year-old Diann Ford remained conscious after she was hit. Another driving passing by saw her and called for help. Ford told investigators that a dark-colored vehicle with very bright headlights hit her. Police are still searching for the driver.
The young woman’s boss tells the San Antonio Express News that Ford was excited about her future as a mother. She knew she was having a girl and had picked out a name.
It is not known who will now care for Ford’s baby daughter.
