7 Tips to Reduce Pregnancy Stretchmarks

When I got pregnant with my first daughter, I was all about the lotions and the creams and the oils in the hopes that I wouldn’t get those infamous stretch marks. With all the studies out there saying up to 90% of pregnant women acquire stretch marks I was hoping I would be a lucky one not getting them.

And I believed genetics would not play into it. Boy was I wrong. In fact genetics do play a role. However, even with them playing a huge part, there are ways to help reduce the amount you get. I’ve found some natural ways to help reduce the amount of stretch marks I attain this pregnancy and wanted to share them with you.

Exercise 1 of 7
Exercise will help promote good circulation of the skin, thus keeping it supple, according to the American Pregnancy Organization.
Stay Hydrated 2 of 7
Water is the key to hydration, and not only works to maintain a healthy pregnancy, but it can keep your skin’s elasticity fluid. As your belly stretches, the more elasticity it has, the better your chances are for reducing the amount of marks that may appear.

Food Your Skin 3 of 7
Vitamin E, C, and Zinc are known to help promote healthy skin and build collagen, which helps to hold all the layers of your skin together. Look for orange fruits and vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts and seeds, lean meats and lentils to boost your supply.
Reduce Stress 4 of 7
According to Abby Willow, on Yahoo! Voices, “If you're stressed, your skin reacts by being unable to rejuvenate, which can lead to more stretch marks.” So the calmer you are, the healthier your skin.
Massage Your Belly Often 5 of 7
Using lotions containing cocoa butter or shea butter to massage into your skin 3-4 a day that is prone to stretch marks during pregnancy, can help reduce the amount of stretch marks you get. The key is to deeply massage, not just rub on and go. Pro Tip: Have your partner join in and rekindle the intimacy you may be losing as your belly grows.

Exfoliate With Oatmeal 6 of 7
Not only is oatmeal great to soothe itchy skin, but directly applied to your skin, it can exfoliate, getting rid of all those dead skin cells.

Gain Weight Slowly 7 of 7
The quicker you gain weight in your pregnancy, the quicker your skin stretches. This will heighten your chances of stretch marks appearing as your skin is in shock as to what’s going on. So try your best to gain weight moderately.
