Saturday Night Live poked fun at our teen pregnancy obsession on Saturday night, re-imagining MTV as “Maternity Television”. The Mock MTV skit featured Scarlett Johansson as a star of ” My Super Sweet 16 And Pregnant”. The actress, in her third turn as SNL guest host, vamps on a hospital birthing bed in tiara and scarlet minidress:
“I’m rich, I’m beautiful, and I’m fully dilated! This is gonna be the best party EVER!”
Her sweet 16 guests hoot her on through her birthing breaths. The network advertises some other upcoming pregnancy series, including “Best Pregnant Dance Crew”, a new version of “Cribs” that’s actually about (baby) cribs, and “Snooki and Pregnant”.
Maybe the spoof will give people a little perspective on the whole pregnancy obsession situation. “16 And Pregnant” and “Teen Mom” have sparked a running debate about whether they’re glamorizing teen pregnancy or showing enough reality to scare teens into safer sex practices. Either way, it’s kind of funny to think of how MTV started and where it is now. From the video revolution to “Maternity Television??” We’ve come a long way, baby mamas.
