With our older children we shared their names before they were born. We never had any of the issues regarding baby names and criticism like we have had this time around. Maybe it is because this is the first girl in our family since… I was born!
But either way, it has become incredibly annoying from all sides. We are asked nearly daily by someone in our family, extended family, friends, co-workers, facebook friends, and everyone under the sun what our daughters name will be.
In the first two months after our big ultrasound I annoyed the hell out of my husband talking about baby names, and thinking we had decided on the name Caroline Ann… after I decided I didn’t like it as much as I thought I did… he wanted to know nothing.
Same thing happened with our oldest son, although I won the name battle for Camden. So, talking about names hasn’t been priority until this past week. With delivery about 9 weeks away, hoping we don’t end up with an early little girl because of our ultrasound results from two days ago, I have things I must get done that include her name before she is born!
I had to put in my order for her name blocks as well as the wooden letters for her nursery. To do that, clearly she has to have a name. And we had narrowed it down to two names, but picking between the two was pretty difficult. I am probably one of the most indecisive people on planet Earth. But I wear the titled proudly.
I mean, your child will have to go through life with this name, so it is nothing to be taken lightly!
In the end, we decided. But, we also decided we aren’t telling anyone until she is born. We learned our lesson already when sharing names that we liked. People would give their two cents, and make one of us second guess the decision we made, or come up with some small insult children in school would tease her with. But when it comes down to it, no matter what we name her, some mean little kid is going to make up something that will hurt her feelings, sadly it is just how kids are. I am sure our boys Camden, and Benjamin will have to deal with it too.
So, everyone will find out her name… Sometime in May. I mean, something has to be kept a surprise right?
