Experts are now saying that bumpers — plush fabric that lines the inside of cribs, traditionally a baby must-have — are largely unnecessary now that crib slats have to be narrow enough to keep babies from falling out. And more than that, they could be dangerous.
The American Academy of Pediatrics now urges parents to skip the bumpers because they A) do little to prevent infant injury, and B) increase the risk for suffocation and entrapment. Chicago went one step further and banned baby bumper sales altogether.
Well Skip Hop has come up with a solution for parents who want the style of baby bumpers without the potential risk.
The Skip Hop Complete Sheet bumper-free bedding.
Alphabet Zoo 1 of 8Skip Hop's Complete Sheet collection comes with an "engineered" sheet that has a graphic print on the side of the mattress, to look like a bumper from the outside. A different pattern is on top of the sheet.
Chocolate Lattice 2 of 8You can buy these as complete sets ($120), which come with a Complete Sheet, crib skirt, nursery blanket, and an airflow wearable blanket. Or you can buy the sheet by itself for $24.
Elephant Parade 3 of 8The Elephant Parade is a fun print new to Skip Hop.
Mod Dot 4 of 8The Mod Dot, on the other hand, has been one of Skip Hop's most popular sets — which typically comes with a pillow and bumper. Yet the Complete Sheet Mod Dot collection has the same style in a newer, safer design.
Moving Gears 5 of 8This is a another new design for Skip Hop.
Pink Lattice 6 of 8An alternative to Skip Hop's classic Flower Burst collection, Pink Lattice is sweet and feminine.
Pretty Pennant 7 of 8Are you dying over this? Because I am.
Treetop Friends 8 of 8And if you love Skip Hop's Treetop collection, here's another version to choose from.
Shop all of these styles at Skip Hop.
