The Birth of Addison

Well, I have officially learned already how different girls are from little boys. Especially when it comes to our children. No matter how much we tried to plan the details of our daughters delivery… something always came up.

Well Friday night was the icing on the pregnancy cake!   My husband and I had some friends of ours over, and we had some pizza and were hanging out… One of our boys was in bed, and the other was getting ready to get ready for bed… He likes to hang as long as he can when there is any kind of company.

I was sitting in my chair, and all of a sudden… POP!  GUSH! Um… What in the hell? And then my pants were soaked.

No way… just earlier that day I was talking with someone about how with my other children my water never broke, and here I was… 11pm at night, soaking wet and officially freaking out.   I stood up to go to the bathroom, call my midwives (and the on call OB because of course, mine had gone away for the weekend) and of course, gush…gush…gush some more.   DAMNIT!

My husband insisted I peed my pants, but after looking at the extent of the mess it made, there is no way humanly possible that was pee. No one, even the biggest bladder on earth could have housed that much pee.

And then came the packing the car, and drive to the hospital. At first when we got into the car, I felt fine. No contractions or anything, but within minutes I was having strong contractions two minutes apart.

I labored what seemed like forever even after we got to the hospital. But alas, like with my other children I wasn’t progressing.  I made it to an entire 1cm and 30% effaced. And again, she never engaged. Eventually I got my epidural for comfort while I waited for an emergent delivery of a little baby in serious distress while our daughter continued to look good on all the monitors.

While I didn’t have the birth team I originally planned which included my midwife as my doula, and my specific OB/GYN I did have an amazing team with many familiar faces. I had the same labor and delivery nurse I had when I was in labor with my youngest son two years ago, the OB/GYN I originally consulted with in the practice, the on call midwife who was amazing, and best of all my favorite Resident who also helped deliver my second son two years ago.

Addison Ann entered the world at 4:26am screaming like a mad woman!

She weighed in at a whole 5 pounds 12 ounces, she is such a little peanut. I am honestly shocked that she really was that small, heck that she is this small.

She is an amazing nurser, and we have been recovering great.

Thanks to all who followed our escapades on Friday night, and the pregnancy all along!
