Back in the late 90′s good ol’ tramp stamps seemed to be all the rage. Let me back up for any of you young folks…
What is a tramp stamp?
The tramp stamp is a lower back tattoo.
Can I get an epidural if I have a tramp stamp?
Anywho – have you heard the old (90′s) wives tale: If you have a tramp stamp you can’t get an epidural because the ink will get into your spinal fluid?
Well – let’s smack a huge FALSE on that old tale. The rumors are completely untrue.
If you have a tramp stamp / lower back tattoo – YES, you can still get an epidural.
If you have a freshly inked tattoo – the anesthesiologist may just say no, but if you are knocked up – you probably shouldn’t of just gotten a tattoo!
I have a theory on where this rumor began. I think some mom threatened her daughter “If you get a tramp stamp, you’re going to have to give birth NATURALLY!” That same mom probebly coined the phrase “tramp stamp” as well.
