Ultrasound Time: Does It Have a Penis or a Vagina?

ultrasound to find out the sex

18 weeks is when my Doctor does THE ultrasound that so many parents can’t wait for – the day they can find out the baby’s gender.

For us, today’s the day! We can find out if our wee little one has a penis or a vagina.

But I Don't Want to Know the Sex!

With this being our 4th, most likely last – and us already having both sexes – I am fully prepared to let this baby’s sex be a surprise.  But one problem. My husband got me pregnant and he wants to find out. Apparently he has some RIGHT or something.

Our 2nd – child, who I got pregnant with while I was on birth control – was a SURPRISE – well in more than 1 way. We went thru 3 ultrasounds in which we could of found out his sex – and I refused. It was an amazing experience – all that waiting, and after delivering his drug-free, it was magical to hear “It’s a Boy!”.

The Ultrasound Was WRONG

Our 3rd child, we decided to find out the sex. My doctor recommends that her patients go to a specialist early on 11-13 weeks in the pregnancy for an ultrasound to measure baby’s neck and some other things to check for abnormalities. She also informed us “You’ll be able to find out the sex!  He has NEVER been wrong!” Our ears perked and thought, sure. We went, had the doctor put the gender in an envelope without us knowing. We brought it home for the kids to open. Well. And this is what happened:

As you can see – my boy had a melt down. He wanted a boy.

We went back to the doctor at 20 weeks and had another ultrasound. My daughter who was so happy to have a sister was with us. She kept talking to the Ultrasound tech about her baby sister. He placed the wand on my belly, and on the screen we saw our little baby – but one thing. “Sweetie, your baby sister is 100% girl. See that right there, that’s a penis.”

Whoops.

Apparently the Specialist had either written down the wrong sex or my son was tucking his wee wee in. Either way – we dealt with all of the girl stuff we had already purchased. (My son still has a purple stroller. It builds character.) My daughter went on to LOVE her little brother and world peace still hasn’t happened.

This could be another part of my hesitation to find out the sex. Ultrasounds aren’t 100% people!

Will We Find Out the Sex?

Negotiations are currently going on in regards to if my husband is willing to let me name our baby – in return the baby’s gender can be revealed. So we will have to see. OR maybe not see.

And of course like any good parent would say… it’s a baby and we don’t care if it is a boy or girl. As long as it’s not twins. That I would NOT be prepared for.
