What Does Breastfeeding Look Like? (Video)

A clip from a lovely Italian breastfeeding campaign.

I don’t think I’ve seen a video that captures what breastfeeding really looks like as much as this Italian breastfeeding promo does.

There are unblinking newborns studiously sucking and  alert older babies fiddling with mom’s hair. There are tiny hands clutching blanket corners and toes poking out of pajama bottoms.

I think it helps those of us who haven’t seen lots of breastfeeding throughout our lives to get a glimpse of this. I have said it before, but I like seeing a casually functional breast. (Not everyone agrees with me, however)

The video ends with a message midwife Robin Lim (winner of the 2011 CNN Heroes Award) –she says that through gentle birth and breastfeeding we can build, “world peace one baby at a time.” I’m not quite so optimistic, but I do think that these images are fantastically positive and worth looking at.
