Why Stretch Marks Gross Me Outclairegoss
I had an odd experience this week. I was at my monthly book club (we read Gone Girl, which was excellent) and I maaaay have had a lot of yummy appetizers and possibly two or three brownies when suddenly, it happened: I actually felt myself getting a stretch mark. Eeeeeewwwwww!
My belly was definitely at its biggest–it was the end of the day, (what’s left of) my abdominal muscles were relaxed, I had filled up on snacks and I took a big, deep breath when POP! I felt my skin stretch and pop, right near my belly button. Oh my goodness, it really freaked me out. When I had to go pee 5 minutes later I took a minute to examine my belly in the bathroom and sure enough–there was the new tread mark on the center of my abdomen.
I need to be clear–the appearance of stretch marks don’t actually gross me out. I think they are a point of pride on a woman’s body–like, look what my body did! It grew and carried a whole human being!!!
But the experience of actually feeling a stretch mark form was NOT a pleasant sensation. Here’s hoping the rest of my stretch marks happen when I’m asleep, or enjoying a meal too much to notice!
Have you ever felt a stretch mark as it happened?
