Put this down as another one of my late pregnancy fears; not making it to the hospital on time. I do want to labor as much as I can at home, but that might leave for little time to make it to the hospital.
That was the case for Nicole Reynolds, who gave birth to a baby boy on Sunday night on the side of a San Diego Freeway.
According to 10News.com, Nicole and her husband Aaron were celebrating the Giant’s Superbowl win when Nicole began to have contractions. On the way to the hospital, Nicole, who wasn’t due to until February 19th, started getting more intense and quicker contractions. Her husband had no choice but to pull over on the side of the freeway.
His first reaction was to try to flag someone down for help, but after no success, Aaron called 911 for help.
“I’m on the phone with 9-1-1 and Nicole is there screaming help, help, and I’m thinking I’m right here, I am the help but I was receiving guidance from the 911 dispatcher so I really thank the 911 dispatcher and I thank my wife for allowing me to practice as a doctor this morning,” Reynolds told 10News.
Before paramedics could arrive, Aaron Reynolds helped deliver his 7 pound 8 ounce baby boy in the front seat of their SUV. Shortly after the baby was born paramedics arrived to help cut the umbilical cord and transport mom and baby to the hospital.
As of Monday, that’s where the couple and their healthy baby boy are resting comfortably.
This story just proves that babies will come wherever and whenever they are ready and it’s up to us to be prepared at any moment!
