  1. Joe Lazauskas says:

My mom would have used that sound system to play me the Ramones…It’s probably a good thing I was born in the 80s and not today.

  2. Andrea says:

Curious how many of these products were sponsored. The list seems like an ad through and through.

  3. Anonymous says:

This is sort of a ridiculous list. I think you only MAY need the sound machine, monitor and humidifier. But, cheaper versions, of course.

  4. Nicole says:

I think the only really helpful thing on this list was the humidifier!! What a waste of time. I hope new parent’s don’t buy into this!!

  5. Briea says:

I love this humidifier–I ahve it at home!!

  6. Rosana says:

I would say that the only thing of all that I bought was a humidifier and it was not that expensive. The baby food mill is not necesary, neither is the fancy thermometer or sound machine. You can use stuff that you had at your house previously and do fine.

  7. Frequent reader says:

Ridiculous paid sponsorship disguised as helpful advice. I’m disappointed in Babble. At least call it what it is instead of acting like you’re trying to help new moms sort through the clutter. A thermometer alarm for the bathtub? Headphones for your belly?

  8. BG says:

We have the thermometer and we love!

  9. sab says:

baby gadgets you’ll actually use? please. agree with everyone else – this is just an ad for some crappy products.

  10. anon says:

I would use none of those. This is bullshit.

  11. Lisa says:

Please first time mothers look away and use your natural instinct! I can’t believe babble endorses these – speakers for your belly?!

  12. william says:

i think you all are right

  13. Katy E says:

Terrible. If you live in a small house or an apartment, you do NOT need a baby monitor. If you want to make your own baby food, get a pot to steam with and a good food processor, the bebe cook doesn’t hold enough to make an entire icecube tray (or the bebe cook tray) of food. The triple function thermometer? Please. You’ll lose all the attachments before you can actually use them. The Bathwater thermometer? A simple feel test can handle it. The sound machine and humidifier are worthwhile (but you can find cheaper versions that work just fine). The only great thing I saw on this list was the cheap nebulizer. Perfect IF you have a wheezey asthmatic or a child with rsv who responds to nebs.

  14. Becky B says:

Meh. I agree with other posters – most of these products are pretty ridiculous. Humidifier comes in handy, yes, but I made all my own baby food for my first kiddo using a pot, a blender, and some mason jars for freezing. Easy peasy, anyone can do it. We did use the Angel Care sleep monitor, but only because we have a kiddo with sleep apnea, who actually does stop breathing sometimes in her sleep. It gives us a lot of peace of mind, but potential buyers should know that once your kiddo gets a little bigger, he or she can wiggle far enough away from the pad (even in a standard crib) that the alarm will go off. It’s absolutely terrifying the first time that happens, let me tell you.

  15. Shelly says:

We really loved the Itzbeen. It helped a lot in the first 2 months.

  16. raedav says:

My friend uses the baby food maker and LOVES it! If you are really into making your own baby food often, then this is a time saver and SUPER convenient!

  17. livi says:

Wow, those are a lot of expensive and unneeded items on the list. Only a couple of them I would even consider buying.

  18. Cooper says:

I have the Ritmo Speakers. Love playing all my favorites for my little peanut in hopes that she’ll relax to my music after she’s born. Best of all, DH travels a lot so he records messages and books (Goodnight Moon) so he can “talk” to her while he’s away. It’s our second and he hates missing out on talking to my belly every day like he did with #1.

  19. Momof3 says:

A monitor and humidifier yes, but the rest are a no-no..Insane list of items that arent needed.

  20. Tiffany K says:

Humidifier – I have 6 kids and have never needed one. I do use a waterless vaporizer when they are sick.

Speakers for your belly – Um no.

Baby Food Maker – This could be useful, especially when you are short on time. I have 6 kids and if I do make my own baby food, it will be with this thing because otherwise it won’t happen. BUT, we’ve just waited until 8-12 months with the last few babies and diced up whatever we ate.

Nebulizer – Maybe if your kid has asthma or something chronic….

Monitor – We only use monitors in the rooms upstairs. If it’s a single story home, you probably don’t need this.

Itz Been Timer – Yeah, I got roped into buying one. Cute idea but not worth it. It only tells you from the last feeding. It won’t help you get a sense of their routine. I prefer the Total Baby app on my iPhone and it was only $4.99

AngelCare Monitor – Nah, no sense in this unless you have a baby with a medical issue.

Bath Thermometer – Um, how about you just stick your hand in and see what it feels like? LOL. The wrist is great at this.. and it’s free. lol

Thermometer – Yes, you’ll need a thermometer. And I do like the idea of having different tips but I believe there was another with better reviews.

Sound Machine – You can find a MUCH cheaper one if you want to use it. lol.

  21. sparkyd says:

This list is a joke and kind of disappointing. You can do better Babble.

  22. R U Serious says:

This list should be called “10 Baby Gadgets You Absolutely DON’T Need.” $120 for a “basic” baby monitor?? Sheesh.

  23. angb says:

most used baby shower gift – the Beaba babycook food maker. Super convenient – steamcook then tip into base and blend – perfect size for making a few helpings, easy to clean. love love love love!

  24. georgiabelle112 says:

I can’t even believe this. Ridiculous article.

  25. scrappinmom19 says:

The Angelcare monitor is the only real product on this list I (might) use. After having a nephew lost to SIDS, my fear is huge. My brother and SIL used one similar to this one and their insurance paid for it. Their 2nd baby is now healthy and almost three, but the monitor allowed them to sleep during the first few scary months.

  26. Anonymous says:

Is Babble getting paid to post these? Is their a policy posted somewhere about

  27. thecivee says:

Is Babble getting paid to post these items? Is there a policy written down about posting other products? These are not practical items. Babble is loosing credibility in mind as a resource for reasonable recommendations.

  28. Kristin Anne Contreras says:

I might use the cool mist humidfier but that’s it.

  29. CartersMommy says:

I think the Itzbeen, 3 in one thermometer and the angel care monitor are great, I love the idea of a the humidifer but a bit expensive. However you dont have to agree with EVERYTHING Babble posts!

  30. Momof3 says:

I used a cool mist humidifier when my kids had croup so that could be helpful. You’ll need some sort of thermometer. I don’t think you need anything else. How about a Bib Drying Rack? That is a new product that I use all the time.

  31. Cheryl says:

It’s very rare that you would actually need or even want a nebulizer – they’re old technology and have many issues with cleanliness (ie. most people don’t wash the components properly/often enough and you can get bacteria build-up – not what you want for your asthmatic kid). You get significantly better drug distribution with a meter-dose-inhaler with spacer device (eg. Aerochamber), and it’s a whole lot easier to hold an Aerochamber on your squirmy 10-month old’s face for 10 seconds than try to get them to sit still for 10 minutes with a nebulizer. Most hospitals are moving away from nebulizers too – the only reason they seem to continue using them is that some physicians and some patients still “like” them.

Can’t believe anyone would even suggest purchasing a nebulizer anymore except in the rare instances that the child needs one of the very few drugs (I think there’s one on the market in Canada) that are only available via neb.

  32. Marissa Mayette says:

Funny how I just got done reading ” Top 10 useless baby products” article and the ItzBeen baby timer was one of them.. Lack of communication much?
