Babble Best Picks: StrollersOne of the biggest purchases for your baby is the stroller, riddled with safety, style, and status issues - as well as affordability, of course, considering some strollers climb above the $1,000 mark. The choices and questions are seemingly endless: How do you accommodate your newborn without wasting money on a short-lived purchase? What are the features you absolutely need? Are luxury strollers really worth it? Can you find a good stroller in the $100 range? To make your search easier, Babble assembled and test-drove over 30 of the newest strollers - from lightweight umbrella strollers to all-terrain joggers - to find the best of the best for every budget, geographic location, and age group. READERS’ CHOICE | Joovy Kooper
For an umbrella stroller, the Joovy Kooper had the smoothest ride, largest canopy and best storage out of all of the strollers in that testing group. And with its sleek design and plush interior, this could be the only stroller you need for your older baby and toddler. Granted there isn’t a bumper bar or snack tray (which most umbrella strollers don’t have anyway) and the footrest can’t be adjusted for sleeping children, but all in all, it’s quite roomy and maneuverable for an umbrella stroller. The price tag doesn’t hurt, either.
The problem with the Joovy Kooper is that it teeters the line between a lightweight and an umbrella stroller. It has the simplicity and ease of use of an umbrella, but it’s definitely heavier than your average stow-and-go umbrella stroller. It has more storage and comfort than other umbrellas, but you can find lightweight strollers of similar weight with just as many features, if not more. It’s a little lighter than your typical lightweight stroller, but doesn’t have as many features. And it’s a little heavier than your typical umbrella stroller, but is more maneuverable and has better storage and features. So while it’s a really great stroller, you might want to weigh your exact needs.
