Top 25 Android Apps for Kids
You may view your Android phone as a communications device, but your kids know that it's actually an awesome mobile gaming center. When you're caught in traffic or facing an unexpectedly long wait at the pediatrician's office, you are going to hand over that phone. The kids will be happy, you'll be relieved, and, if you choose your apps carefully, they might even learn something while they play. On a safety note, while some of these games have the option to network with other players, I don't recommend that for kids. Let them know they shouldn't select anything that says "Share" or "Sign into a network." Did I leave out your favorite? - Sonya Mukherjee

The Cat in the Hat – Dr. Seuss
This delightful story app is perfect for both pre-readers and early readers. Kids can choose to read the classic story themselves or have it read to them. If it is read to them, they can choose whether to turn the pages themselves with a finger swipe or have them turned automatically. The narrator who reads the story out loud is superb, and in Read To Me mode, each word lights up as it’s spoken, helping to guide early readers through the text. Some pages have interactive options, minor sound effects, and small visual changes that add engagement without distracting from the reading experience. The Android Market has several great Dr. Seuss titles from the same developer, Oceanhouse Media.
