The daily drama of life on the reservation and the tragedies that come with alcoholism make for a gripping story, one that I couldn’t stop thinking about long after I finished. The determination of the main character and narrator, Arnold Spirit, allows him to succeed despite his environment and the low expectations of his family. Even if he had to walk 22 miles home from school, he did it. A great lesson in perseverance for adults and kids alike.
