Top 50 iPhone Apps for Kids
About a week after I began using my iPhone, I was in love. I had a calendar with me at all times, and I was able to stay on top of my family's schedule - even though there are six of us! I had email access while I was out, so I wasn't constantly playing catch up with PTO business in the evening. Then I discovered apps! There are many apps to help busy moms manage their lives, but there are also just as many exclusively for kids. My children can watch videos, interact with their favorite characters, and practice letter-writing and math. No matter where my family goes, they can be entertained and I can have peace of mind knowing they're learning even while they're having fun.

In January 2009 I began a website, The iPhone Mom, dedicated to helping moms find apps that could do the same for them and their children. Since beginning the site, I've seen both the quantity and quality of useful apps for kids grow.
Babble.com asked me to put together a list of my Top 50 iPhone Apps for Kids. Here, in descending order, are my favorites and the ones I think you'll find most useful.

Olivia

I love spunky and sassy literary characters, and Olivia the pig may possibly be my favorite one of all. I also appreciate Olivia’s mother and the patience she has for her determined little piglet! Not satisfied with best-selling picture books and a television show, she has come to an iPhone app. In this app your child can create different Olivia scenes: theater, bedroom, playground, beach and more to choose from. Next they are given different stickers that can be dragged and placed in the scene, becoming animated for a moment. Stickers can be moved and rearranged around the screen as many times as your child wishes. Olivia has made the transition to the iPhone, and it’s sure to delight her fans.

For babies and toddlers, check out the app I made for my daughter: Baby Buttons:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/baby-buttons/id324535487?mt=8
It works on the iPhone and iPad.
This 5-star review sums it up well:
Our baby has been playing this app on her mama’s phone since around the age of 10 months. She’s 18 months now and still loves it. It doesn’t hold her attention forever, but it’s definitely good for a solid 5-10 minutes, which is more than most of her toys. She comes back to it over and over.
The app itself is pretty simple, when you hit a button it makes a funny noise, cycling through several different noises. Every 8th one or so it also vibrates the phone. If you shake the phone it will rearrange the buttons. The sounds make our baby smile from across the room, so they seem to be very good for keeping her entertained.
While TapTot (http://taptot.com/) was only released a few days ago we believe it deserves a spot in everyone’s Top 50 list (or any top list for that matter… but hey, we’re biased, right?)
TapTot teaches core Pre-Kindergarten cognitive, motor, and memorization skills in an interactive game-like format… in other words, it makes learning fun! Kids will learn their Shapes, Colors, Letters, and Numbers as they respond to simple auditory cues in the learning levels as well as when they play the matching game.
TapTot is currently at the top of the New & Noteworthy list in Education in the iTunes App Store and made it into the top 100 Paid Apps in Education in its first 3 days! Thank you to everyone who has supported us!

Hi,
We developed ‘iReactive’ with Pedagogy aspects in mind. Its interesting
for kids between 6 – 16. It enables them to experiment with sensors and
various output possibilities. They can create their own mini “Reactlets”
and store them. Its adjusted to daily use of a mobile phone but also
allowing simple fun and engaging them for challenge.
First application of its kind : iReactive : http://bit.ly/ireactive4iphone

Best memory match for my kids is “Super Kids”, they really enjoying playing with it, it is really helping my kids in learning alphabets, Numbers, Colors and simple Objects, check it out in App Store.
I would like to recommend my children’s e-book Through Heaven, app for iPad and iPhone.
It’s about out-of-body and near-death experiences. This book is one of a kind, because there’s not much going on in the ‘spiritual’ app world for kids. Children have out-of-body and near-death experiences too, and it’s not easy for them to talk about it. Communication about these experiences becomes almost effortless thanks to appealing, concise text and breathtaking, clarifying photos. There’s music in this book: sounds of nature and beautiful tunes kids will like. Furthermore: kids can draw in this e-book.
