Top 50 iPhone Apps for Kids
About a week after I began using my iPhone, I was in love. I had a calendar with me at all times, and I was able to stay on top of my family's schedule - even though there are six of us! I had email access while I was out, so I wasn't constantly playing catch up with PTO business in the evening. Then I discovered apps! There are many apps to help busy moms manage their lives, but there are also just as many exclusively for kids. My children can watch videos, interact with their favorite characters, and practice letter-writing and math. No matter where my family goes, they can be entertained and I can have peace of mind knowing they're learning even while they're having fun.

In January 2009 I began a website, The iPhone Mom, dedicated to helping moms find apps that could do the same for them and their children. Since beginning the site, I've seen both the quantity and quality of useful apps for kids grow.
Babble.com asked me to put together a list of my Top 50 iPhone Apps for Kids. Here, in descending order, are my favorites and the ones I think you'll find most useful.

If you have an elementary-schooler in your home, then Wacky Chatter might be the perfect app for keeping them entertained. (Be forewarned though, it does use a decent amount of potty humor.) Here’s how Wacky Chatter works: on the screen you are given two different sets of wheels to spin. The first wheel has three sections, one with a noun, one with a verb and one with another noun. Together those three sections create a simple sentence. Spin the wheel’s sections to create a completely wacky sentence about bellybuttons, cockroaches or worse! Underneath this wheel is another that also has three sections. In each of these sections is a group of cartoon characters, each with it’s own unique voice and personality. Spin these sections to decide who will be reading the different parts of your sentence. When you’ve set it all up you press a button and your sentence is read aloud by the Wacky Chatter characters. If you’re looking for a more random experience, you can shake your phone and see what the app gives you. But be on your toes, because you might get something really outrageous! My older children think this app is a winner!
